MONTREAL: CMJ Concepts, the new factual production partnerships arm of CMJ Productions II, has secured deals for They Got Away With It and Celebrity Estates with ReelzChannel in the U.S. and for Home Made with Canada's Documentary Channel.
First seasons of the factual programs They Got Away With It and Celebrity Estates have been ordered by Reelz. The former focuses on celebrities-including Sean Penn, Mike Tyson, Martha Stewart and Naomi Campbell - who were caught committing crimes but still managed to maintain successful careers. The latter examines the amount of money such celebrities as Whitney Houston, John F. Kennedy, Amy Winehouse and Heath Ledger had before they died - and who inherited their fortunes or debts. CMJ will begin production on both projects next month.
In addition, CMJ Concepts has sold the first season of Home Made to CBC's Documentary Channel in Canada. The show, from CMJ Productions II, spotlights some of the most world's most unusual structures and the people who built them.
Lou Occhicone, the president and COO of CMJ Concepts, commented: "CMJ Concepts' deals with Reelz and Documentary Channel support our division's operating premise that there is a real need in the marketplace for high quality factual programming. Original, engaging factual series drive ratings and advertising revenues."
Steve Cheskin, the senior VP of REELZ Programming, added: "We are very excited to commission these two series as we continue our rapid ramp up of original programming. Our audience has shown interest in these subjects by making hits of our current series Hollywood Scandals and Final 24. CMJ has a proven track record in this genre and we know they will create fascinating and entertaining programming that our viewers will look forward to every week."
